Brick Staining - Can you make that blue stain go away?
That was the question I received recently on a call from a potential client. You just never know what situation is going to present itself when a request comes in for a seamless repair.
“That’s a tough one…” I muttered as I examined the picture she had emailed to me.
Apparently a tenant living in the apartment complex she managed, had ‘accidentally’ dropped a bucket of paint when he was moving from the premises. Unfortunately for him the paint splattered onto the wall creating a quite a mess in the once neat hallway.
“Paint shadows can be one of the most difficult to cover because the repair stain needs to be less translucent and more opaque.” I continued.
Attempts had been made to clean the bricks by many different ‘cleaning’ professionals but to no avail. What was left was the ugly, dark shadow that persisted as seen in the photo above.
We were asked if we could improve the situation.
“I think I can improve the way it looks and maybe even get to a seamless finish but I can’t guarantee the outcome.” I explained.
We agreed to terms and additional hourly rates if the staining extended beyond a 1 day service. Luckily I was able to get to the desired results sooner rather than later. We were able to improve the overall look of the hallway with a minimal investment in time and materials.
We got rid of the shadow yes. After a few years of dust accumulation the repair area should blend in nicely with the surrounding materials. (finish photo below)
